I have this thing for decorative pillows. My eyes light up when they meet throw pillows in stores. So. Many. Cute. Designs. But, I’ve never purchased one. Never, not one. However, I make them like they are going out of style (which they aren’t, so don’t even go there). They are the easiest sewing project in the entire world of sewing! Supplies: two pieces of material, stuffing, thread. Boom!
And the possibilities? Endless!
These require nothing more than printing out an outline of your desired state, cutting around the edges, and then pinning it onto desired material. Trace the outline in pencil, remove the paper outline, and then carefully cut around the tracing on your fabric. Now, just lay it onto your pillow (this works either before or after it’s been sewn and stuffed), pin it in place, and equip a needle with embroidery thread in your choice of color. Simply stitch in and out, in and out, just inside the edges of the state (or shape). Tie it off just under the state/shape/etc.
If you want to make an adorable love bird pair of pillows, take a contrasting embroidery thread, stitch a couple of hearts in the vicinity of your choice, and then add a trail. Super duper easy!
