Do you have one of those pieces of furniture in your home that just makes you happy to look at?
This is the coffee table, and is one of my happy pieces.
I found this old coffee table at a yard sale a couple of years ago, and paid $2 for it. I literally ran to my car with it, afraid it’s previous owner would change his mind before I got away with this practical steal. Unfortunately, I can’t find the before picture, but I initially painted it yellow. The same yellow that my living area walls are painted with. Not the most brilliant idea. Boring. So I had the bright idea to kick it up a notch. This ended up being one of those late night what the heck was I thinking projects.
But oh, how I adore it’s new life!
You can see that the legs are still yellow. I also kept the sides of the table yellow, for contrast. I started by painting the table top white. After it dried, I just made up a design as I went.
Taking a yardstick and painting tape (I would’ve used Frog Tape, had I known of it’s wonders at this time), I measured and taped. And then I ripped it off, and measured and taped some more. Repeat times a hundred. Then, I painted over the table top again, this time in a basic gray, using interior paint.
Aaaaaand, this is where the Frog Tape would’ve been my BFF, seeing as how I then had to tediously straighten up the lines that had bled, thanks to crappy painter’s tape. Lesson learned.
The frustration was worth it! It’s in projects like this, that I realize how tired God must be!
